Daytona Beach, FL - Police say an armed man who tried to carjack someone near International Speedway Boulevard and Ridgewood Avenue was shot by police.
Daytona Beach Police Chief Craig Capri said that the incident began as the suspect, who was armed with a rifle, attempted to carjack a Popeyes Chicken employee.
The suspect soon made his way towards the Wawa gas station off of Ridgewood, where he pointed his gun at police. Capri said officers opened fire, subduing the suspect. Reports now say that the suspect is in the hospital and is recovering.
No officers were injured during the incident. The suspect and the type of rifle used has yet to be identified by police. This story is still developing and we plan to pass along updates as soon as they are available.
