Deltona, FL - The search for a suspect who stole a car in Deltona lead to a Sanford hospital lockdown over the weekend.
On Sunday, a 2013 Hyundai Elantra was reported as stolen from the Wes Crile Park in Deltona around 7:10 PM. The owner's iPhone was in the car at the time it was stolen, and GPS was used to track down the phone to Orange City.
Later, a black male was seen driving the stolen car southbound on Charles R. Beall Blvd. in DeBary. A felony traffic stop was initiated, but the man driving the stolen car fled and drove recklessly towards the Seminole County/Volusia County line. At the border, stop sticks were deployed and struck the stolen vehicle's back driver side tire.
Sandford Police and the Seminole County Sheriff's Office later found the stolen car after they received reports about a black male with a handgun near the Central Florida Regional Hospital. The car had run into a utility pole.
Since the incident occurred near the Central Florida Regional Hospital, a lock down was put into place at the hospital as a precaution. The handgun was found by deputies and turned over to Sandford police, but the suspect was not located. The incident is currently under investigation.
