Ribbon-Cutting Scheduled At New ADA-Compliant Park In New Smyrna Beach

New Smyrna Beach, FL - A new playground located beachside in New Smyrna Beach will be officially opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony tomorrow morning. The emphasis is on ADA-accessibility at the 27th Avenue Beachfront Park. New Smyrna Beach Public Information Officer Phillip Veski said the park features an internal ramping system, rocking “Cruiser,” musical instruments, climbing and balancing platforms, vortex spinner, “Konnection” swing set, soft turf grass, and large green and blue shade sails.

Veski said last week's soft opening has garnered a lot of attention on social media. After the ribbon-cutting, the new playground will get a try-out by children from the "Babe" James Summer Fun program. The kids will be joined by the NSB Fire Department mascot, "Sparky" and Waste Pro mascot, "Waste Pro Man."

Others who will be at the park are staff members from the Utilities Commission, who will be running a hydration station and providing information on power and water conservation and the NSB Turtle Trackers, who will be there to talk about sea turtle nesting season.

Veski said the park was paid for in part with a $220,000 Volusia County ECHO grant with the city of New Smyrna Beach putting up matching funds. Because of the emphasis on ADA-accessibility, the City worked with the Miracle League of Volusia and S.P.A.R.C of Volusia to highlight the new playground's all-inclusive amenities.
