Port Orange, FL - Months after the chain temporarily ceased operations, Regal Cinemas plans to reopen one local theater while the status of one remains up in the air.

As of Wednesday morning (April 14), 22 Regal theaters have reopened in the United States, with only two locations currently operating in Florida, both in the Orlando area. The chain announced the reopening of these locations five months after its parent company, the UK-based Cineworld, announced that they were ceasing all operations, domestic and abroad.

A look at Regal's website shows that another 11 theaters are slated to open on Friday (April 16th), but no Florida theaters are expected to be a part of that reopening.

Per the website, the company plans to reopen 46 theaters throughout the US, including seven Florida locations in Ft. Myers, Gainesville, Hollywood, Orlando, and West Palm Beach.

On May 7th, another 177 theaters is expected to open, including 17 locations in Florida. However, none of those locations lie within the Volusia County area. In fact, Volusia can expect local Regal theaters to remain closed until May 14th.

According to the website, Regal's location at the Port Orange Pavilion will be one of 143 theaters reopening that day, along with 10 other Florida locations. Another 124 theaters, including eight in Florida, are expected to open by May 21, but that does not include Regal's theater in Ormond Beach.

According to Regal, the company currently operates 549 theaters throughout the United States. By May 21st, 523 of those locations will be reopened, meaning the status of 26 others, including Ormond Beach, remains unclear at this time.

News Daytona Beach has reached out to the company to see if there is a possible reopening date, but we have yet to hear back.
