Port Orange Man Sentenced In Child Molestation Case

Daytona Beach, FL - A man charged with performing oral sex on a 15-year-old boy will be spending the next 12 years in a state prison facility. Circuit Judge Matthew M. Foxman sentenced 64-year-old David Lee Davis this morning (January 17).

Davis, a former substitute teacher, was arrested in October of 2018. The investigation found that Davis sexually assaulted the boy at his home on at least two occasions. Davis invited the boy to his home ostensibly to help him with his math homework.

“He played that role of a fatherly figure,” Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood said of Davis following his arrest. “This guy fits the profile that we see from these types of people.”

The investigation began in September of 2018 when a school resource deputy was contacted by one of the boy's neighbors. The neighbor expressed concerns about Davis possibly molesting the boy based on conversations she had with him.

During a controlled phone call, detectives say that Davis said to the boy, “I’ll talk to you about (oral sex). I’ll talk about (masturbating you). I’ll talk about looking at porn.”

Davis was a self-proclaimed political consultant who ran for Volusia County elections supervisor in 2016 and lost in the primary. He also ran for congressional seats in 1982 and 1990 but was unsuccessful both times.
