Daytona Beach, FL - He was found guilty in court of killing a Ponce Inlet couple in a traffic crash over two years ago.

Now George J. Hatzimouratides gets the maximum sentence possible in that May 2016 crash on Clyde Morris Boulevard near Beville Road in Daytona Beach.

Florida 7th Circuit Judge Dennis Craig sentenced the 31-year-old Port Orange man to two years in Volusia County Jail. He was booked at the jail on Friday (February 22nd) following his sentencing hearing.

The Florida Highway Patrol says Hatzimouratides was going over 85 miles an hour in his pickup truck on May 1, 2016 when he hit a Volkswagon vehicle with Gary & Deborah Miller inside. The arrest report shows Hatzimouratides was actually going over 90 miles an hour just before hitting the breaks.

A Volusia County jury found Hatzimouratides guilty in January of two counts of culpable negligence, a misdemeanor where the maximum sentence was one year in jail. Had he been found guilty of the original felony charges of vehicular homicide, Hatzimouratides could have gone to prison for up to 15 years per count.

Hatzimouratides is suing the Millers' estate in civil court, claiming that Gary Miller turned in front of his truck when he shouldn't have and that he was seriously injured in the crash.
