Police Searching For Man Who Jumped Main Street Bridge

Daytona Beach, FL - Police in Daytona Beach are investigating after someone drove through a traffic arm and jumped the Main Street bridge as it was in the middle of raising.

According to an email from Messod Bendayan, Public Information Officer for the Daytona Beach Police Department (DBPD), the driver was headed east on Main Street from the mainland around 7:45 Monday morning (April 12th).

As the driver approached the drawbridge, the traffic arms began to come down and the bridge began to raise. However, the driver continued towards the bridge and eventually drove through the traffic arm, breaking it.

After making the small jump—as the bridge was just beginning to raise—the driver continued eastbound and broke through a second traffic arm that was also in the down position.

In one frame of the video provided by police, it looks as if the driver was on their phone during the incident. They can be seen with their left hand up to their face as if they were talking on their phone. Police have not said whether or not the driver was on their phone.

Per Bendayan, investigators think they have identified the suspect in this case, but no arrests have been made.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact the Daytona Beach Police Department.
