Daytona Beach, FL - You may notice a lot more tattooed people than usual this weekend, especially around the Ocean Center. Beginning today and running through Sunday, the Pirate Tattoo Association Gathering will be taking place at the Ocean Center on A-1-A.
Producer of the show, Buca, said the main attraction for many people will be his partner, Gill "The Drill" Montie, maybe best known as the artist to put the last tattoo on rapper Tupac Shakur before he died. Montie started his career here in Daytona Beach back in the 80s when you could be arrested for tattooing. Buca said Montie is back 30 years later to kick off the first tattoo trade show.
Hundred of tattoo artists will be in attendance from all over the world from as far away as Australia. A huge competition for the best pirate tattoo has a $25,000 prize. Attendees will also have a chance to win a skull tattoo from Gill "The Drill" Martin, which is what he's most famous for. When 2,500 people have come through the door, one name will be drawn and that person will win the tattoo.
The Pirate Tattoo Association Gathering begins at 11 a.m. today and will finish up on Sunday at 8 p.m. The cost is $20 per day or $50 for the weekend.
