Palm Coast Mother Charged In Doctor's Office Altercation

Palm Coast, FL -  A Palm Coast mother spent the night in the Flagler County Jail after causing a commotion at a doctor's office. Flagler County Sheriff's deputies say Claudia Munoz was arrested yesterday (May 5) after causing a verbal disturbance, refusing to leave the property and battery on a law enforcement officer when she resisted arrest.

Video from the arrest.

Deputies say the security guard at the building told them that Munoz was actively arguing with the nurses on scene when they would not tell her the results from her 18-year-old son's test.  It's not clear what her son was being tested for.  Munoz was advised that due to COVID-19 regulations, she had to wait for her son outside. She pushed one of the nurses and then sat down in the waiting room and refused to leave.

The first deputy to arrive tried to explain the reasons she needed to leave. Munoz insisted she was following the guidelines and again, refused to leave. She began speaking over the deputy and began to yell at him. She was asked to leave numerous times and continued to refuse.

The deputy advised Munoz that she would be arrested if she did not leave. When he attempted to handcuff her, she pulled away and the deputy had to perform a straight-arm takedown to the floor. She continued her resistance, kicking, pulling away, digging her nails into the deputy's arm and trying to bite him. Another deputy arrived and they were able to get Munoz in the handcuffs and into the back of a patrol car.

“A simple trespass warning turned into two felony charges when this woman refused to listen and
decided she would do what she wanted and assaulted our deputies,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “New business policies surrounding COVID-19 are in place to keep everyone safe. Please understand the ‘new normal’ we are all living in and don’t let anger get the best of you. If you do, it may result in a stay at the Green Roof Inn.”

Munoz is charged with two felonies, Resisting an Officer with Violence and Battery on an Officer.  She's also charged with misdemeanor Trespass After Warning.  Her bond was set at $5,500. She was released just after noon today.
