Ormond PD: Man Died After Falling From Granada Bridge

Ormond Beach, FL - Investigators are hoping some witnesses come forward who can give them more clarity about how an Ormond Beach man died earlier this week.

A fisherman discovered the body of Luis Roberto Miranda around 9:45 p.m. Wednesday (October 24th) floating in the Halifax River near the Granada Boulevard bridge.

Ormond Beach Police Department Officer Keith Walker says it looks like Miranda - who had his 28th birthday on Sunday (October 21st) - may have fallen from the high-rise bridge and into the water, possibly while riding his skateboard.

"Preliminary findings [of the autopsy] indicate that Miranda’s fatal injuries may have occurred as a result of an accidental fall," Walker added. "At this time, no foul play is suspected."

The autopsy also indicated that Miranda may have been in the water for greater than 24 hours, per Walker.

Miranda was last seen around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday (October 23rd) when he left his residence at Shadow Lakes Apartments on his skateboard, according to a missing person report filed by his girlfriend, who is also the mother of his newborn child.

She called OBPD around seven hours later, concerned that he had not come home and hadn't shown up for his shift at the Hard Rock Hotel in Daytona Beach, per the report.

Walker admitted that it's not clear where on the bridge Miranda fell from and that police are hoping to get some kind of clue which will help them figure that out.

"We believe, at this point, it was accidental and he fell off the bridge," Walker noted. "And there's a lot of construction underneath the bridge, so we'll be checking that too."

OBPD did not receive any calls of a man falling from the bridge that night, per Walker.

The report notes that there were no signs of Miranda suffering from depression or taking drugs or alcohol in excess.
