DELTONA, Fla. - The Volusia Sheriff's Office announced Tuesday that 25 year-old Amonte Davis was placed in jail in connection to a Deltona shooting in May 2022. Davis was already in custody in Marion County before being transferred to Volusia. It's the first major case update in the incident that left one man injured.

The shooting took place at around 12:30 am on May 18th, 2022. Deputies responded to the 3200 block of Partridge Street in Deltona and found a 45 year-old reeling from a gunshot wound. He was treated for what was considered a non-life-threatening injury at a local hospital.

According to the testimony of the victim, he was just returning home in his driveway when a vehicle pulled up and its driver fired at him. He said he did not recognize the shooter or the vehicle.

The VSO is charging Davis with attempted murder, principal to aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and principal to shooting into an occupied vehicle. He's being held at the Volusia County Branch Jail with no bond.

A spokesman for the VSO says there was video evidence available to help track down Davis, and both license plate readers and cell phone tracking were used to pinpoint him as the main suspect. As it would turn out, Davis was already being held at the Marion County Jail on charges unrelated.

Davis' prior offenses include aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, battery, property damage over $1,000, vehicular theft, and obstruction of justice.
