New Flagler County Superintendent Working To Fill School District Positions

Flagler County, FL – The new Flagler County Schools Superintendent, James Tager, has filled several school district positions. Dr. Earl Johnson is set to gain the title of Executive Director of Leadership Development for the school district. Johnson has been involved in education for a long time and his previous position was as Matanzas High School principal. For 26 years, Johnson has been a teacher and administrator in Volusia County before coming to Flagler County and Matanzas High School in 2015. Recently, Johnson was selected as a finalist for the Florida State Principal of the Year. “I am blessed to be selected as Executive Director of Leadership Development for Flagler Schools. I know there is a great team ready to work with me as I transition into this new role,” says Johnson. “I am looking forward to this new chapter of my career.”

John Fanelli has also been chosen by Tager to become the Buddy Taylor Middle School principal. For the last 5 years, Fanelli has been the principal at Wadsworth Elementary schools. He is an alumnus of Belle Terre Middle School where Buddy Taylor was principal. The school was later renamed to honor Taylor. “I’m a proud Eagle, coming home to nest!” says Fanelli.

Fanelli was 2015 Flagler Principal of the Year and will succeed Nathan Lovelette. Lovelette will be the Director of the i3 New Tech Academy at Flagler Palm Coast High School. “I fully believe in the vision of the New Tech Network and will continue to promote teaching that engages, culture that empowers, outcomes that matter and technology that enables,” says Lovelette.

Matanzas High School and Wadsworth Elementary School are currently looking for new principals. “Each of these educators has excelled where they were and I expect they will take that same passion and professionalism they exhibited in the prior positions and bring it to their new posts,” says Tager.
