All three cities in Flagler County will be setting to Memorial Day ceremonies on Monday. The city governments of Palm Coast and Flagler Beach will be hosting theirs, and the Flagler County government is putting theirs on in Bunnell.
Leading off the morning is Palm Coast’s ceremony, held at Heroes Memorial Park on Palm Coast Parkway. Last year’s ceremony was well-attended and featured Flagler’s representative in Congress, Michael Waltz. There was no Mayor in office for last year, but this year will feature remarks from since-elected Mayor David Aflin.
Following will be the county’s ceremony at the Government Services Building. Its headlining speaker is Cecil Hengeveld, a decorated U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, and beloved singer and veteran Vince Cautero will be back to deliver his rendition of God Bless the USA.
Flagler Beach will close out the day with their ceremony, held at Veterans Park. It will be introduced by City Commissioner Jane Mealy, and speakers include Mayor Suzie Johnston, Pastor Jeanine Clontz of Flagler Beach United Methodist Church, and Army Major Tom Hall. Ceremonies will be performed by the Matanzas High School JROTC and the color guards of the Flagler Beach Fire and Police Departments.
