Deltona, FL - A suspect with an active Volusia County warrant runs from law enforcement with his girlfriend and three kids in the car.
Yesterday (February 27th), a VCSO deputy responded to the intersection of Overton Street and Farrington Drive in Deltona as another deputy was following a red Kia.
That vehicle was driven by 19-year-old Jose Abad, who had an open 2018 Volusia County felony warrant regarding a violation of probation on previous charges of burglary, grand theft firearm and dealing in stolen property back.
According to VCSO, Abad had already fled in that vehicle earlier from DeLand Police Department. Abad also had a suspended license after failing to pay traffic fines.
When deputies put on their lights to stop Abad, he drove off and ran a stop sign at the intersection of Goldcoast Drive and Malaluka Street, eventually fleeing out of sight.
VCSO then flooded the area in search for
Eventually, Air One was able to spot Abad near the area of DeBary Avenue and Enterprise Road, watching as he weaved in and out of traffic.
Air One continued to report Abad's location as deputies prepared a Stop Stick trap at the intersection of Cloverleaf Boulevard and Fountainhead Drive.
As Abad approached Cloverleaf, he noticed the deputies up ahead and slammed on his brakes, driving off the roadway and making a U-turn, leading Air One on another chase through Deltona.
Air One followed Abad into a neighborhood where he was seen driving erratically, even through one person's lawn. Not long after, Abad ditched his vehicle near Danforth Drive and ran on foot.
Abad ran behind a house and continued on until a deputy confronted him, yelling for him to get on the ground in front of a residence on Chamberlain Street.
He told the arresting deputy that he thought he could get away as long as he was circling the neighborhood communities because he thought law enforcement couldn't follow him through them.
When deputies approached his ditched car, they found Abad's girlfriend and three children, ages 12, 9 and 4.
The girlfriend told deputies that she begged and pled with Abad to stop the vehicle so she and her children could get out as they (the children) screamed and cried.
According to her narrative, Abad only stopped because he was running out of gas. The woman and the children were uninjured.
Abad was taken into custody on charges related to his warrant and the additional charges of fleeing, child abuse and driving with a suspended license.
He's currently in custody at Volusia County Jail with no bond.
