VSO Says Drugs Possibly Involved

OAK HILL, Fla. - An intoxicated man was discovered dead in a pond in Oak Hill Tuesday night, according to a new statement from the Volusia Sheriff's Office. The incident occurred near Beacon Light Rd.

The VSO's statement says thaat 39 year-old George Cameron was staying in a shed behind a home this week. A call was placed about a man running erratically through yards in the area around 10:30pm. When the VSO arrived on-scene, they were informed by the caller that the man had entered a nearby pond on his own accord and begun swimming in it.

By the time deputies reached Cameron, he was unresponsive. CPR was performed, and he was rushed to AdventHealth's New Smyrna Beach location. Edgewater Police officers assisted in initial resuscitation efforts, but Cameron was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The VSO has informed Cameron's family and an autopsy is slated to be performed by the medical examiner as of Wednesday morning.
