Palm Coast, FL - A man featured on the "America's Most Wanted" television program 23 years ago for stabbing his wife and abducting his daughter is arrested in Flagler County following an over three-hour police standoff. 46-year-old Michael Eugene Moore was wanted on assault and battery charges in Virginia when he finally surrendered peacefully last night (January 26th) in Palm Coast's B-section, according to the Flagler County Sheriff's Office.
FCSO spokesperson Shannon Martin says a license plate reader tipped deputies off to Moore after it found a vehicle at 3:41 p.m. on Palm Coast Parkway which had been reported stolen during an armed robbery in Virginia. "Deputies located the stolen vehicle on Belle Terre Parkway and attempted a felony traffic stop," Martin added. "Moore eventually stopped his vehicle on Beaverdam Lane but then refused to exit the vehicle or comply with any of the deputy’s demands." That led to the eventual callout of FCSO's SWAT and Hostage Negotiation teams along with the evacuation of at least five houses in the immediate vicinity as deputies surrounded Moore's vehicle. FCSO K-9 units and the Flagler County FireFlight helicopter were also deployed in the vicinity as added protection to ensure Moore couldn't escape, according to Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly. “This incident could have had a very different outcome,” Sheriff Staly added. “This is a guy with an extremely violent history. We will never know what crimes we may have prevented by apprehending him tonight."
Moore was featured on "America's Most Wanted" in 1996 in a case where police say he kidnapped his daughter - 5 years old at the time - and stabbed his wife 33 times. She managed to survive the attack. Detectives are also looking into the 46-year-old resident of Glen Allen (VA) for a separate armed robbery case in Virginia where a woman was tied up and her car stolen, per FCSO. FCSO has charged Moore with grand theft auto and resisting an officer. He'll be held at Flagler County Jail until Virginia authorities decide if they want to come get him, per Martin.
