TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Mainland High School is all geared up to face off against St. Augustine High School in the state championship game on Thursday. The two teams will face off in Tallahassee, at Florida A&M University's Bragg Memorial Stadium.
Those looking to listen in on the game can do so on WNDB at 3:00 pm Thursday. As always, WNDB broadcasts on 93.5 FM and 1150 AM. Furthermore, Mainland High School will be broadcasting the game over their PA system on Thursday as it occurs. The broadcast will be sponsored by Rose Villa Restaurant, Jon Hall Chevrolet, and the Electrical Training Alliance of Daytona Beach.
The Mainland Buccaneers advanced to the state championship game last week with a victory over Vanguard in the FHSAA Class 3S semifinal. With that win, Mainland can head to Tallahassee with a four-game winning streak.
Still, even on an undeniable hot streak, Mainland will have their work cut out for them. St. Augustine hasn't recorded a loss yet this season, and unlike the similarly undefeated Florida State Seminoles, they won't be held back by questionable league administration.
Head coach Travis Roland will be tasked with keeping his team focused with the backdrop of last year's painful loss in the state championship game. The Bucs lost to the Lake Wales Highlanders 32-30, bringing the team within inches of everlasting glory.
Already, Roland's tenure at Mainland has ushered the school's football team into one of its most successful in school history. Roland left his head coaching job at Flagler Palm Coast High School in 2021 after making the playoffs with the Bulldogs four out of four seasons.
