Palm Coast, FL - A suspect who was caught on camera stealing mail from local mailboxes turned himself into law enforcement after he saw his picture on Facebook.
Flagler County Sheriff's Deputies were recently called about two incidents in the "P" section of Palm Coast about mail being taken from residents' mailboxes. In both cases, the homeowners had put outgoing mail in their mailbox and then left the area. While they were gone someone took the mail.
Luckily, one of those homeowners had surveillance cameras on the front of their home that caught the suspect in the act. Video shows the suspect pulling up in an older model Toyota 4Runner and taking an envelope from the mailbox before driving away. Photos from that video were posted to the FCSO Facebook page and shared over 430 times. Apparently one of those shares caught the suspect's eye because according to FCSO, that's why he turned himself in to the Sheriff's Operations Center in Bunnell. Officials say since turning himself in he has fully cooperated with detectives.
“Thank you to our social media community for helping get the word out which put the pressure on and got him to turn himself in,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “Having the involvement of the community helps us to fight crime and solve cases.”
