LWV-Volusia Helping Voters Make Informed Decisions

New Smyrna Beach, FL- The general election is six weeks from today and besides the races for public office, Florida voters have 12 amendments to decide on. To help voters make an informed decision on the amendments, the League of Women Voters of Florida has released the 2018 Nonpartisan Voter Guide.  LWV-Volusia President Nicki Junkins said there's a lot for voters to consider, including the twelve amendments that are on the ballot. Junkins said that LWV members have been making presentations to various private organizations to explain what will happen for each amendment for each amendment if it is approved or disapproved. She said that with this information, voters can hopefully make a more informed choice with their vote. While the LWV does not support candidates of any party, it does take positions on the issues. Junkins said the position is developed over a period of time where the issues are studied, research is done and a consensus is taken from the membership. To help people make the best decision, locally, Junkins said voters can use vote411.org Once on the website, you'll be asked to enter your address. This will pull up the ballot based on where you live. You'll find information on local and state races. You'll also find information about the 12 amendments. Junkins said if you'd rather attend a presentation with the information, they are holding four that will be open to the public. The first one is this evening at Sugar Mill Country Club and begins at 6 p.m. The next is Saturday, October 6 at 10 a.m at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Ormond Beach followed by another on Sunday, October 7 at 4 p.m. at the Community Unitarian Universalist Church in New Smyrna Beach. On October 15th at 6 p.m., there will be one more presentation at the Deltona Regional Library.
