Lawsuit Filing Today Against City Of Edgewater And Developer In Marina Project

Edgewater, FL - In an effort to prevent the development of a marina complex in the city of Edgewater, former City Manager Ken Hooper, along with several others, is filing a lawsuit today against the city and the developer, Kowalski and ASKI Development LLC.

Hooper, who is an Edgewater resident, and other residents living in the area to be developed at the old Cameron Marina, say the development will affect their quality of life. The plans call for a 44 slip marina, a 152 seat restaurant, a bait and tackle shop and a kayak rental store.

Mayor Mike Thomas, District 1 Councilwoman Christine Power and District 3 Megan O’Keefe are in favor of the development, newcomer District 2 Councilwoman Kimberly Yaney and District 4 Councilman Gary Conroy voted no to the development.

The people participating in the lawsuit have set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for the legal fees. The goal of the fund is to raise $75,000. On the page, the basis of the lawsuit is because the city and the developer have crafted a special agreement that will basically ignore normal developmental rules and existing codes, and will allow the developer to do what the city's own protective rules prohibit.
