Labor Day Gas Prices And Driving Home In A Hurricane

Daytona Beach, FL - Gas prices this Labor Day weekend are the lowest in two years even though there was a jump of between seven and ten cents for a gallon of regular gasoline. Triple-A spokesperson Mark Jenkins attributes the increase to the Labor Day holiday to meet surge and demand. He says he doubts the increase has anything to do with the hurricane.

Jenkins said while prices might not have anything to do with Hurricane Dorian, people are filling up their tanks whether they are leaving town for Labor Day or riding out the storm at home. He said that there have been periodic outages but gas deliveries are still being made. Jenkins also said that as long as the ports are open, gasoline should still be coming into the area.

Whether you are leaving town for Labor Day or staying at home, Jenkins reminds that monitoring the storm is very important. What travelers really need to consider, according to Jenkins, are weather conditions for the return home.

"Dorian has the potential to cause flight cancellations, altered cruise itineraries, and extremely hazardous conditions on the road," said Mark Jenkins, spokesman, AAA - The Auto Club Group. "AAA urges travelers to monitor weather reports closely and follow the advice of authorities. Travelers concerned about their flight or cruise should check online or contact their travel provider for a status update. Those planning a road trip should plan ahead and make arrangements to be off the road if and when severe weather strikes."
