Port Orange, FL - A man is dealing with serious burns on his body after Port Orange firefighters find him alive in his burning home.

The man - yet to be formally identified by Port Orange Fire & Rescue - was airlifted to an Orlando hospital following last night's (February 27th) fire on Lafayette Street.

POFR spokesperson Christine Martindale says the call for help came in just before 7 o'clock to a home located on the east side of Woodland Cemetery.

"[The] house is a total loss," Martindale added.

Rescue crews from South Daytona and Volusia County assisted POFR in knocking down the flames and getting the homeowner medical attention.

The damage to the home is estimated at around $40,000, per Martindale.
