While Florida statewide gas prices are still high, a new report from AAA shows that for the third week in a row, the average cost of a gallon has ticked down. The average gas price in Florida is at $3.48 as of Sunday according to the report.
This new report continues on a recent trend of lowering prices, with the cost per gallon having now dropped 24 cents over the past three weeks. Still, most motorists in Florida still feel pressured by prices that are substantially higher than they were just a couple years ago.
"Weakness in the oil market has contributed to the recent drop in gas prices," said AAA spokesperson Mark Jenkins, explaining this most recent drop. "That weakness has been driven by domestic economic concerns. Underwhelming Chinese economic indicators have also created uncertainty about global fuel demand. With continued volatility in the fuel market, it's unclear whether this downward trend will continue in the lead-up to the busy Memorial Day travel weekend."
Statewide, the most expensive market to buy gas is West Palm Beach-Boca Raton, where a gallon still costs $3.72 on average. Pensacola is the cheapest area at $3.14 on average.
Volusia County is near the state average at $3.47 per gallon, while Flagler is moderately higher at $3.56 per gallon. Florida's average as a whole is slightly below the national average of $3.58.
