Four Teens Arrested In Drug Deal Turned Robbery

DeLand, FL - Four teens are facing armed robbery and aggravated battery charges after they robbed a father and son during a drug deal.

Just before 1:30 Tuesday afternoon (August 6th), a 41-year-old father and his 18-year-old son showed up at the DeLand Fire Department after the father suffered from a gunshot wound to the chest.

He was taken to a nearby hospital and his injury was considered not life-threatening.

While recovering in the hospital, detectives met with the father and son to ask about what happened. The son told DeLand police that he and his father were headed to a Sherwood Drive residence to sell marijuana to someone that had contacted them over Snapchat.

When they arrived, they met with 17-year-old Jarvis Carr, who entered the vehicle to inspect the marijuana and carry out the deal. However, once he entered the vehicle he pulled a handgun from his waistband and demanded their belongings, according to the son's report.

At that time, several other males armed with handguns emerged from the home and surrounded the vehicle and started taking items from the father and son, including a bag that was eventually given back to the victims.

The son says that his father was able to secure a firearm from the bag and pointed it at the males while he backed away from the home. As he did, the males fired at the vehicle several times, with one of those shots hitting him in the chest.

The son claims that they did not fire any shots back at the group. He also identified Carr, along with 17-year-old Daquante Johnson, 15-year-old Elijah Bruten and 14-year-old Kveon Jiles.

All four teenagers were charged with robbery with a firearm, using a deadly weapon and aggravated battery. Jiles is also facing charges related to another case as more arrests and charges are pending in this case.

Booking information and mugshots are not available for the group as the males are under the age of 18.
