Flagler County, FL - Update: The Flagler County Sheriff's Office and public officials participating in the 'Jail'n Bail' fundraiser to benefit the American Red Cross raised more than $5100.
Photos from the event on Friday, March 31, are below.
Earlier Reporting: As part of an American Cancer Society (ACS) "Jail'n Bail" fundraiser, Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly will be on the streets Friday serving warrants on several public officials in conjunction with ACS' Relay for Life.
Sheriff Staly will also be on the lookout for the notorious Kris Kringle, aka Santa Claus, who apparently has an outstanding warrant for multiple burglaries and operating an aircraft without a license.
Those who are "arrested" will be transported to face a "judge" at Flagler Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM of Palm Coast, 5925 E. S.R 100. As part of the fundraiser, "bail" will be set, all to benefit the ACS.
While an arrestee is in "jail," he or she must secure "bail" in the form of pledges to benefit the ACS' Relay for Life of Flagler County, Saturday, April 1.
Those arrested will have the opportunity to make more than 1 phone call, text or email as they reach out to friends and associates to raise enough bail money to be released.
Palm Coast City Councilman and local attorney, the Honorable Robert Cuff will be the presiding "judge." Those arrested will appear before the judge between 10:30 AM and 1:30 PM.
Money raised from the "Jail'n Bail" event will help the ACS provide information and support for people affected today with cancer, and fund cancer research projects to help protect future generations.
“As a result of a warrant being issued for the the arrest of Santa Claus, I find myself having to do one of the most difficult things I have ever had to do in my career,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “But it is my sworn duty to uphold the law and therefore I must carry out my duty and arrest Santa Claus."
“I’m sure the judge will go easy on him and he will be vindicated and able to return to toy-making so he is ready for next Christmas,” Sheriff Staly said. “Unfortunately, cancer impacts a number of people and families and I wanted to do all I could to support the efforts of the American Cancer Society and to eradicate cancer. Fighting cancer and fighting crime go hand in hand, as both diseases touch us all."
This is the 1st time the Flagler County community has participated with the ACS "Jail'n Bail."
