Flagler Motorcycle Deputy Hospitalized After I-95 Crash

A deputy with the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office was hospitalized after a motorcycle crash on I-95 Tuesday, the agency announced. Deputy First Class Benjamin Stamps was admitted to the emergency room but is expected to make a full recovery.

The incident occurred on I-95 in St. Johns County when Stamps was on his way to a shift in Flagler County. According to the FCSO’s statement, Stamps was riding his agency-issued motorcycle when another vehicle improperly merged into his lane. Stamps attempted to evade the evade the vehicle, but he reportedly was still hit and came off of the bike.

Florida Highway Patrol responded to the crash and handled the investigation, and so a FHP spokesman has been contacted for further information. Stamps was taken from the scene of the crash to the nearest suitable hospital: Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville.

The latest update on Stamps’ condition came from his boss, Sheriff Rick Staly. When Staly visited Stamps in the hospital Tuesday he said that he was conscious and alert. He’s so far undergone surgery for severe elbow injuries sustained in the crash. According to the FCSO, Stamps is expected to be released in the coming days and soon make a full recovery.
