FCSO Trying To Curb School Threats With New Campaign

Bunnell, FL - The Flagler County Sheriff's Office debuts a new campaign aimed to educate students on threats of violence.

The campaign is known as "Make The Choice to Raise Your Voice" and it hit FCSO's social media earlier today, including YouTube.

The aim of the campaign is to remind residents and students that there are multiple ways to report suspicious activity and threats.

"We have investigated 11 school related incidents since December and we want to make it clear to students: if you make a threat, even in a joking manner, there will be consequences," Sheriff Rick Staly said. "We also want to remind everyone to report any suspicious activity they see. 'Make the choice to raise your voice' by reporting it and let us investigate it."

In December, FCSO saw its share of school investigations, including a student who brought a gun to Buddy Taylor Middle School. Another incident occurred when two Flagler Palm Coast High School students made threats against a teacher, which was followed by another pair of students from Indian Trails Middle School who made threats to shoot up the school just a day later, to name a few.

According to Sheriff Staly, some of those incidents are still under investigation, with forensic investigation of some of the computers used currently underway at the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Crime Lab.

"That's delayed a couple of investigations but [most of] the kids have been charged," said Staly.
