Flagler County, FL - The Flagler County Sheriff's Office (FCSO) Investigative Services Division Chief has been chosen to co-chair Florida's Region 3 Domestic Security Task Force. Chief Rick Ramirez will co-chair the Florida Department of Law Enforcement's (FDLE) Northeast Florida efforts "to prepare, prevent, protect, mitigate, respond, and recover from" all threats to the state. With his new position, Chief Ramirez will promote the "See Something, Say Something" campaign, the Suspicious Activity Reporting (SAR) national initiative and help the FDLE distribute state grant funds by making recommendations. “See Something, Say Something” is a campaign that helps get the public involved in domestic security. The motto helps the public be more aware of their surroundings and to say something if something is wrong or suspicious. The SAR initiative is similar in that it helps law enforcement at the national level with U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the FBI, as well as at the state and local level. The Northeast Florida Domestic Security Task is comprised of domestic security specialists who are able to use their skills to gain and share information leading to the protection of Florida's security in infrastructure and resources. The Task Force allows for cooperation and coordination between federal, state and local agencies. “Domestic security was thrust to the forefront after the September 11th attacks,” says Flagler County Sheriff, Rick Staly. “That is why I started a Domestic Homeland Security Section in the Sheriff’s Office when I took office. This is a great honor for the Sheriff’s Office and I think Chief Ramirez will be a great co-chair.”
