Deltona, FL -
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal overnight accident that had the eastbound side of Interstate 4 shut down for around eight hours.
Around 12:20 a.m. today (September 6th), FHP says a man riding a 2005 Honda motorcycle was traveling in the center lane of I-4 near Mile Marker 107 - around a mile east of the Dirksen Drive exit in Deltona - when he hit the back of a 2003 Chevrolet sport utility vehicle driven by 36-year-old Melissa Anderson of Osteen.
The Chevy was also in the center lane just ahead of the motorcycle, per FHP Lieutenant Kim Montes.
"We have now determined that seven other vehicles ran through the crash scene, either striking the motorcycle or striking the victim," Montes added.
The motorcyclist was then ejected off of his bike and hit the highway before being run over by two other vehicles.
The drivers of both vehicles stopped and immediately called law enforcement.
The report also says that the biker was not wearing a helmet and that no other injuries were reported.
The crash shut down I-4 until around 8 a.m, with traffic being diverted off exit 104 (Orange Boulevard/U.S 17-92).
Autopsy results are pending to determine if alcohol or drugs were a factor.
