Edgewater, FL - Police are now investigating after the driver of a stolen vehicle was found dead in the Halifax River.

Edgewater police say they found a stolen Ford F-150 bearing North Carolina plates traveling on South US-1 just after midnight (January 16th). The truck fled from officers but was eventually hit with stop sticks, which deflated the tires.

The truck came to a stop in the 400 block of North Riverside Drive, where the driver fled the area on foot. A search was conducted that consisted of K9 units from Edgewater police and the Volusia Sheriff's Office.

The United States Coast Guard also searched parts of the intracoastal waterway. VSO and the Brevard County Sheriff's Office assisted the search with helicopters.

After two hours, the search was called off. The passenger, who has been identified as Leighann Craig, remained in the vehicle and was arrested for grand theft of a motor vehicle. Jail records show she's still held in custody on a $5,000 bond.

Then, around 10:13 this morning, Edgewater police responded to reports of a deceased male who was found in the intracoastal waterway. The man was identified as Craig M. McCollum, the driver of the stolen vehicle.

Police are still actively investigating the incident. McCollum's cause of death is still unconfirmed.
