Daytona Beach, FL - As Tropical Storm Dorian moves through the Windward Islands and closer to Puerto Rico, the forecast gets a little more defined.
Yesterday's tracks from the National Hurricane Center originally showed that Dorian would pass over the Windward Islands before strengthening to a Category 1 Hurricane, but as of the 5 a.m. advisory it seems that the story has changed.
The new track shows that Dorian is expected to remain a tropical storm through the majority of its path through the Atlantic and the Caribbean as it moves closer to Puerto Rico.
New models and reports also show that Dorian has since slowed down to 13 mph, with pressure raising slightly from 1003 mb to 1005 mb. Currently, maximum sustained winds remain near 50 mph with higher gusts, with tropical storm force winds extending outward up to 45 miles.
Slow strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours, and Dorian is forecast to be near hurricane strength when it moves close to Puerto Rico and eastern Hispaniola.

According to the NHC, tropical storm conditions are expected and hurricane conditions are possible in Puerto Rico as early as tomorrow, where a tropical storm warning and hurricane watch have already been issued.
Uncertainty still remains high, but wind and rain impacts are possible in the Bahamas and Florida later this week and into the weekend. NHC is urging residents in these areas to monitor the progress of Dorian throughout the week.
News Daytona Beach will monitor the tropics and provide updates as soon as possible when they’re available.
