DeLand, FL - Two suspects accused of stealing $14,000 from an ATM end up in the hands of law enforcement.
Back on June 21st, the Volusia County Sheriff's Office was called to a burglary in progress on June 21st at the Winners Circle off of State Road 15A.
There they found out that thieves had smashed the window and used power tools to break into the ATM and flee before deputies arrived.
But, thanks to blood evidence left behind by one of the suspects who was apparently cut during the break-in, evidence was collected and submitted to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement in hopes of a DNA match.
Just recently, VCSO received the results, prompting detectives to secure arrest warrants for two suspects.
Those suspects were 36-year-old Mackenzie Jones and 38-year-old Anthony Kimbell, who were arrested just this past Friday (August 2nd) in Polk County.
During the investigation, detectives learned they were seen at the Winners Circle before the burglary, and appeared to be casing it. One person matched a suspect description from the burglary which led to Jones, while the DNA identified Kimbell.
Three other DeLand-area burglaries are also under investigation and investigators are seeing if both Jones and Kimbell are connected to those cases.
Polk County Jail records show that Jones is still in custody on a $25,000 bond while Kimbell has been released on bond.
