Daytona Beach, FL - Not only will there be a wet weekend and start of the week, but the fourth named storm of the 2019 Atlantic Hurricane Season has formed.

Tropical Disturbance Near Florida

According to the National Hurricane Center, A trough of low pressure extending from the coast of south-central Florida over the western Atlantic continues to produce a large area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms.

Current environmental conditions seem conducive for gradual development over the next few days, with a tropical or subtropical depression likely forming early next week while the system moves northwestward away from the Florida peninsula.

That system is expected to bring wet weather to the southern parts and eastern parts of Florida beginning as early as Sunday (August 25th) and into the earlier part of the week.

Tropical Storm Dorian Forms Near The Lesser Antilles

What was once a disturbance in the Atlantic now has a name, becoming the fourth official named storm of the 2019 Atlantic Hurricane Season.

Originally known as Tropical Depression Five, Tropical Storm Dorian developed east of the Lesser Antilles earlier today after spending all of Friday (August 23rd) under the eye of the NHC as a monitored disturbance.

The latest advisory on Dorian says that the storm is moving west near 12 mph and a turn toward the west-northwest is expected tomorrow, with that motion expected to continue through Tuesday.

On that track, the cyclone is expected to be near the central Lesser Antilles on Tuesday.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 40 mph with higher gusts. Gradual strengthening is also forecast during the next few days, as Dorian could be near Category 1 Hurricane strength when it approaches the Lesser Antilles.

It's too early to tell exactly what kind of impact Dorian could bring to the Caribbean and the United States. Current models show that the storm is predicted to hit the Lesser Antilles and continue towards Puerto Rico.

News Daytona Beach will monitor the tropics and provide updates as soon as possible when they’re available.
