Deltona Woman Killed While Crossing Road

Deltona, FL - The Volusia Sheriff's Office (VSO) says a Deltona woman who was crossing Fort Smith Boulevard with her husband was killed after she was struck by a car.

Deputies say 52-year-old Linet Colon was walking with her husband near an Ace Hardware off Fort Smith Blvd Thursday night (April 15) just after 9:00. Around that time, the driver, also from Deltona, was headed east on Fort Smith Boulevard from Courtland.

According to what the driver told investigators, he saw a dark shadow in the road and tried to swerve to avoid the couple—who were not using a crosswalk—but instead struck the woman with the passenger side of his vehicle. Fire rescue arrived moments after the crash and transported Colon to Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford. She was pronounced dead just before 10 p.m.

The VSO states a preliminary investigation at the scene found no signs of impairment with the driver. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
