DeLand, FL - The DeLand Police Department is launching a program called Operation Honorable Endeavor, which it hopes will get officers out of their patrol cars and out into the community to build relationships with residents.
Operation Honorable Endeavor is a part of a global effort to concentrate on community policing and emphasize building positive relationships, particularly with youth. This effort will increase bike patrols, foot patrols, and talks throughout the community and lead to better interactions between officers and residents.
This operation will be used in conjunction with Operation Vigilant Protector, DeLand PD's proactive approach to prevent crime in local neighborhoods. If an officer sees a condition with potential for a crime to occur, he or she will attempt to contact the resident to warn them of the unsafe condition. The goal of Operation Honorable Endeavor, in conjunction with Operation Vigilant Protector, is for the DeLand police to become more connected with the community.
“It is our hope that initiatives like Honorable Endeavor make it evident to the community that our officers desire to know and be known by those we serve,” Police Chief Jason Umberger explains. “By building relationships with our residents, we hope to earn their trust and eventually their assistance in making DeLand an even safer place to live, work and play.”
