DeLand, FL - It will be first-come first-served on Saturday, August 7, at DeLand's 11th Annual Mayor’s Backpack Giveaway. The event takes place at the amphitheater in Earl Brown Park, 815 South Alabama Avenue from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m.
The City of DeLand, Spring Hill Neighborhood Association and many community partners will be providing families with backpacks and supplies. Once families are in line, they'll receive a ticket for each child to ensure they get a backpack. Vendors will be located in the park to provide school supplies.
Child immunizations and the COVID-19 vaccine will be available from the Florida Department of Health-Volusia (FDOH). Children between the ages of 12 and 18 receiving a Covid-19 vaccination must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and sign a consent form.
Different health screenings, including blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol screening, will be provided by Rising Against All Odds, Hispanic Health and other healthcare providers.
