DeLand, FL - The DeLand Police Department has earned its re-accreditation.
After a thorough review of the department's adherence to law enforcement standards, the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation granted the DeLand Police Department the achievement.
“I am extremely proud of the men and women of the DeLand Police Department for the hard work and dedication they displayed in working toward receiving this recognition,” says DeLand Police Chief, Jason D. Umberger. “As such, residents and visitors to our city can be confident that the DeLand Police Department is committed to excellence in police service.”
Umberger says that the accreditation process helps police to better their performance as an agency. He also says that an independent group followed the standards from the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation to make the decision.
Based off about 200 different standards evaluated, Chris Graham, the DeLand Community Information Specialist, says that the DeLand Police Department was in compliance with many of them, and they got "a pretty good review."
The DeLand Police Department earned its first accreditation in 2004, then again in 2008, 2011 and 2014. This re-accreditation will last for 3 years.
