DeLand, FL - DeLand police announce that they have made an arrest in a November abduction and rape case. The suspect remains in custody.
On November 21st, the 31-year-old victim flagged down a motorist on East New Hampshire and asked him to call 911. The victim stated that a Hispanic male, now identified as 48-year-old Rodrigo Reyes, forced her into his vehicle and drove to a remote section of East New Hampshire Avenue.
At a press conference yesterday afternoon, DeLand Police Chief Jason Umberger discussed not only what the victim told police, but also their investigation into Reyes. He said that residents in the community actually helped police directly to Reyes, as they’ve had run-ins with him before.
Umberger wants anyone who may have had a run-in with Reyes to contact the DeLand Police Department.
