DeLand Man Ticketed For Colliding With Train After Failing To Yield

DeLand, FL - A DeLand man was ticketed for failing to yield to an Amtrak train during a Monday morning incident at the corner of Mud Lake Rd. and Audobon Ave. on the outskirts of DeLand.

At 9:40 AM, Ricky Stallard, a 57-year-old man from DeLand was traveling eastbound on Mud Lake Rd. in a 2016 Nissan pickup. An Amtrak train, driven by 63-year-old David Ware of Fernandina Beach, was traveling southbound on the tracks . Stallard began to pull out onto the tracks, and the front of the train struck the left front of the Nissan, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

The train was carrying 214 passengers and nine crew members, none of whom were hurt in the crash. Stallard had minor injuries but was not transported to a hospital. Alcohol was not found to be a factor, and Stallard was wearing a seatbelt. The train crossing where the crash occurred is on a private road, but there is a a stop sign with a warning to yield to trains.
