DeLand, FL - A plea deal will give a DeLand man the chance to get out of prison on parole, someday. Juan Lopez was partying with 30-year-old Trevin Taylor on March 9, 2017, when an argument over a lighter caused Lopez to shoot him in the head. Lopez was charged with first-degree murder, which means mandatory life without parole if found guilty. To have a chance of getting out of prison, the charge was reduced to second-degree murder, which is punishable with a term of up to life but with the chance of parole. The Assistant State Attorney also dropped a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
