DELAND, Fla. - A 28-year-old man from DeLand was arrested last week on accusations that he'd kidnapped and sexually battered a 14-year-old girl he met on Snapchat. Derran L. Bibbs, who allegedly pretended to be 17, has been in custody for nine days as of Wednesday.

According to a statement from the Volusia Sheriff's Office, Bibbs met the victim on Snapchat and arranged to pick her up from a friend's residence in Tampa last Sunday. The girl reportedly told detectives that Bibbs began driving her all the way back to Volusia County, something she didn't want to do.

The girl then reportedly told Bibbs to take her back home or even let her out of the car where they were, but Bibbs refused. He's then said to have exited I-4 and sexually battered the girl. The details of the incident were not specified.

After the incident ended, the VSO said the girl was able to contact a friend, who called 911 advising of the current situation. A police officer from Lake Helen then spotted Bibbs' vehicle, and conducted a traffic stop alongside VSO deputies.

The girl was hospitalized to be evaluated for the earlier incident, while Bibbs was arrested and charged with sexual battery on a 12-18 year old victim, kidnapping, and deprivation of custody of a minor. He remains in the Volusia County Branch Jail as of Wednesday on no bond.
