Suspect Charged with 1st Degree Murder

DELAND, Fla. - A therapist in DeLand has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder after a dead body was found in the trunk of his car, according to the DeLand Police Deparment. 46-year-old Travis McBride was arrested and is now in custody with no bond.

The incident began Thursday morning shortly after 7:00 am when the Deland PD received a call to a home on South Frankfort Ave. After investigating the area of the call, detectives discovered the body in the trunk of McBride's car, having been apparently shot to death. He was quickly identified as a suspect.

So far police have not identified the victim of the killing as they work to notify their next of kin. The decision to charge McBride with first-degree murder implies that, by definition, police have reason to believe that the killing was premeditated.

DeLand Police Chief Jason Umberger has said they believe McBride and the victim were in some sort of dispute. They also believe the murder happened some time after 11:00 pm on Wednesday. The incident is considered to be isolated, and police are advising the community that there is not believed to be any further public danger stemming from this one grisly occurence.
