Daytona Beach, FL - A 27-year-old man is dead after being hit by a pickup truck while trying to cross Nova Road early Sunday (June 30) morning. Daytona Beach Police say Justin Russell tried to cross in the 400 block of South Nova, about two blocks south of Orange Avenue, around 3:45 a.m.
Investigators think that Russell tried to cross without using a marked crosswalk. Police say he was wearing dark clothing. Russell was transported to Halifax Health Medical Center. He passed away from his injuries at about 4:55 a.m.
Police say that the driver of the pickup, a 42-year-old man, showed no signs of impairment or being under the influence. He was allowed to drive his truck away after investigators processed the scene.
An autopsy will be done to determine if Russell had drugs or alcohol in his system at the time of his death.
No criminal charges are expected at this time.
