Daytona Beach, FL - Criminal charges likely won't be filed in a fatal accident last night (October 24th) in Daytona Beach.
That's the word from the city's Police Department as it continues to investigate the incident around 7:30 p.m. last night on North Nova Road just south of 6th Street.
DBPD spokesperson Lyda Longa says the victim - who hasn't been identified by police because his next of kin hasn't been notified yet - and a male friend were walking when a car struck him.
"Upon investigation, it was learned that motorist Kenneth Dowdell of Daytona Beach was driving north on North Nova Road when he struck the victim," Longa added. "The victim was [also] in the roadway, also heading north."
When questioned afterward, Dowdell told police he didn't see the man.
The victim's friend wasn't hit by the vehicle Dowdell was driving and was not injured during the incident.
No other details have been released by DBPD at this time, with Longa saying that traffic homicide investigators are still working on the accident report.
