DB: City Commission Agrees To Hire Attorney For Panhandling Ordinance

Daytona Beach, FL - The City Commission is hiring an attorney who will get the ball rolling on Daytona's new panhandling ordinance.

At their meeting yesterday, the Daytona Beach City Commission agreed on spending $30,000 to hire Michael Kahn - a Melbourne based attorney - to draft a panhandling ordinance for the city similar to one he wrote up for St. Augustine.

Kahn admits there may be some legal issues to sort out, but he says his background in writing ordinances like this - including the one he did for Saint Augustine - should give the city confidence it'll stand up in court.

This panhandling ordinance comes in light of an increase in aggressive panhandling in Daytona Beach.
