Daytona Police Have Suspect Arrested in Alleged Child Kidnapping Attempt

Posted

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Daytona Beach Police Department announced Tuesday that they have a suspect in custody for the alleged attempted kidnapping of a six year-old on Sunday. The suspect in question was apparently in custody on unrelated charges when police tied her to the Sunday incident. She has no bond for these other charges.

As of noon Tuesday, the DBPD have not released the name of the woman they suspect is responsible for the attempted kidnapping. She has not yet been formally charged for her role in the incident, as the DBPD awaits advisement from the State Attorney's Office.

In the early afternoon Sunday, police say the woman came up to a mother and child who were walking home from Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. She's said to have grabbed the child by the arm and attempted to pull them away from their mother, but was unsuccessful. The suspect is then said to have fled the scene.

More information will be added to this report as it is made available by the Daytona Beach Police Department.
