Daytona Beach, FL - Expect a bit of sticker shock if you need to fill up your car soon.

Gasoline prices have rocketed up in the past week, with an average jump of 16 cents for a gallon of regular throughout the Daytona Beach metro area. Similar jumps were also measured for other gas grades.

At the county level, Volusia's current average is $2.49, seven cents over the national average. Flagler's is a cent higher at $2.50.

In Florida, the state average peaked recently at $2.48 for the year before dropping down to $2.47 as of today (March 4th).

AAA spokesperson Mark Jenkins says don't expect any price slowdowns to last for long.

"That springtime bounce is far from finished," Jenkins added. "Normal spring factors like rising demand, refinery maintenance and the introduction of summer-blend gasoline should keep upward pressure on pump prices for the next couple of months."

The auto club still expects the regular gas price nationwide to peak at around $2.75 a gallon by Memorial Day, the traditional start to summer.

The average gas price has gone up 25 cents across Florida in the last ten days, according to AAA. That includes a three-day stretch where the average went up 14 cents.

Gas prices currently remain six cents lower than at this point last year, per AAA.

West Palm Beach-Boca Raton ($2.57), Ocala ($2.51) and Homosassa Springs ($2.51) have the highest gas prices in Florida by metro area, while Pensacola ($2.33), Crestview-Fort Walton Beach ($2.36) and Panama City ($2.38) have the lowest.
