DeLand, FL - A 17-month long investigation results in the arrest of 31-year-old Myesha Williams on charges of first-degree premeditated murder yesterday (June 29). DeLand Police Chief Jason Umberger said in a press conference today that Williams’ boyfriend, Perry Stanley Sr., is the suspected shooter and will also be charged with murder in the death of 59-year-old Terrance Gibson on January 31, 2019.
Gibson was shot to death in an open lot on West Euclid Avenue in DeLand. Police say he was found lying on his side on the ground in a pool of blood
Umberger said that a report shows that Williams contacted Mutual of Omaha and paid the premiums to increase a $25,000 accidental death policy on Gibson to $750,000, at one point handing the phone to a man who confirmed the change. Gibson's mother told investigators that the voice on the phone was not her son's.
Witnesses told investigators at the time of the shooting that Gibson was sitting at a table in that open lot when a man wearing a mask approached him then leaned over and shot him in the back at least five times.
Willams is in the Volusia County Jail being held without bond. Her boyfriend, Perry Stanley, was already in the Orange County jail on different charges.
