Orange City, FL - Volusia County officials are trying to figure out who left a dog tied up to a picnic pavilion at a public park in Orange City earlier this week.
The dog - described as an older female brown shepherd mix - was discovered around 9 a.m. Wednesday (March 27th) at Valentine Park, according to county spokesperson Kevin Captain.
"Witnesses reported seeing a woman drive into the park in a tan-colored, newer model motorhome," Captain noted. "Moments later, she exited the vehicle."
According to those witnesses, the woman left a blanket and water for the dog after tying her up. That's when she left the park, per Captain.
"Volusia County Animal Control officers retrieved the dog and brought her to the Southeast Volusia Humane Society, where she is being cared for until she is reclaimed or adopted," Captain stated.
The dog - whose name isn't known - did have a black padded nylon harness on her with two leashes hooked to each other.
It's not clear if the woman who abandoned the dog is the actual owner, according to Captain.
"Volusia County Animal Services is seeking the public’s help in identifying the woman who abandoned the dog," Captain noted. "Anyone with information is asked to call 386-248-1790."
No apparent injuries were spotted on the dog.
