South Daytona, FL - A Daytona Beach man with four prior felony convictions ends up in Volusia County Jail again after he tried to evade deputies by hiding in a dumpster.
23-year-old Treshawn I. Lovett is out on $8,000 bond following his arrest on New Year's Eve in a parking lot near the International Academy of Hair Design on U.S. 1 in South Daytona.
According to the arrest report, a Volusia County Sheriff's Office deputy spotted Lovett on Third Street near Derbyshire Park in Daytona Beach around 9:30 p.m. that night behind the wheel of a white four-door Volkswagon which was speeding with no headlights on.
Lovett refused to stop when the deputy turned on his lights, running a red light as he crossed Nova Road, per the report. That's when the deputy requested assistance from Air One, the VCSO helicopter, which was hovering in the area.
Air One's crew managed to track the Volkswagon soon afterward and followed it into South Daytona, where the driver abandoned the vehicle along Banana Cay Drive and ran northeast towards the International Academy, eventually taking refuge in a dumpster on the northwest side of the parking lot.
